The city of San Clemente in pursuing their Downtown Vision is
planning to develop 3 1/2 acres of city owned land at North Beach.
The city has already reviewed and recommended developers and
discussed price and terms of payment. While North Beach can be
considered a gateway to San Clemente on southbound PCH, North
Beach should be preserved as a beach recreation destination, not a
retail mecca. A better location for a retail/entertainment venue would
be a few yards away along El Camino Real. This project puts what's
left of our valuable beach front land in the hands of one developer with
no ties to San Clemente except for our pocketbooks.
